According to Pat Rabbitte “Nowhere has the standard dropped so much as in the coverage of politics”. As one person pointed out, Isn’t is amazing how much the supposed standard of journalism has dropped since March 2011? Harry Browne had a good piece on the Irish Times’ new business focus in the last issue of Village. He made a point that we need to stop talking about a thing called journalism and start looking at things in journalisms. Who do we have?
Fionnan Sheehan
Harry McGee
Miriam Lord
Niamh Lyons
Lise Hand
Brendan Keenan
Noel Whelan
Stephen Collins
Mary Minihan
Michael O’Regan
Shaun Connolly
Mick Clifford
Pat Leahy
David Davin Power
Niamh Connolly
Jody Corcoran
Ursula Hallagan
Fiach Kelly
David McCullagh
John Drennan
Shane Coleman
Justin McCarthy
Martina Devlin
Páraic Gallagher
Sarah McInerney ( No idea who else writes for the ST)
Probably forgetting more but it’s fair to say of the list above there is far more then just one type of political journalism in the country. Whither it’s getting better or worse is entirely subjective but I would think people are or at least have the chance to be better informed more now then any time before. How much of that is down to the above is up to you.
