Loathe as I am to look at another numbers game on marches. Here’s one quick thing on the Unite 4 life rally this weekend.
Cannot locate any shot of it from a higher vantage but if we assume to be close enough to one and count back lamp posts.
Would we say seven down the left hand side? Including the one we are at.
And looking up from the middle for a better idea of density.
Say this below is maintained the whole way for six lamp posts.
It definitely is for three.
Like it was for just over four during the record breaking Where’s Waldo thing on Merrion Square West in 2011
Guinness Book of World Records counted & verified 3,701.
Looks like way more doesn’t it?
The WSM piece put Saturday roughly the length of, the narrower, Merrion Square South including tents, trucks, TVs and what have you.
Google maps show eight lamps from one end to the other.
The figure they come to is broadly in line with Miriam Lord (not a unbiased view granted) today who says the number was “roughly similar in size” as the Never Again (15-20k) march back in December. Conclusion here is the same, if even.
You can’t count much on lamps but it’s difficult to see how we had upwards or close to ten times the amount of Wallys over the weekend.
